We love coffee cake, and this sounds so flavorful! Do you sour the milk w/ vinegar or lemon juice?

It IS a really good coffee cake, Rosemary! I don't have a preference for either vinegar or lemon juice to sour the milk.

This looks good. Can buttermilk be substituted for the sour milk?

I still haven't made your muffins, but I have the ingredients on hand.

I've never tried buttermilk in this recipe, Persis. But sour milk is easy to make by adding a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to a cup of plain milk. Just let the milk stand for about 5 minutes before using in the recipe.
